Who is Eligible?

ECO4 — Broadest Eligibility

You may qualify if you:

  • Receive Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support, JSA, or ESA
  • Live in a home with an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G
  • Are a homeowner or private/social tenant
  • Live in a home built before 2002 (most qualify)

GBIS — Income-Independent Route

You may qualify regardless of income if:

  • Your home is in council tax bands A-D (England/Wales)
  • Your property has no existing cavity wall or loft insulation
  • You're a homeowner or have landlord permission

Boiler Upgrade Scheme — Any Homeowner

Available to:

  • Any homeowner in England or Wales
  • Properties with a valid EPC (less than 10 years old)
  • Replacing a fossil fuel heating system (gas, oil, LPG, electric)

Grant Deadlines 2026

March 2026

GBIS Phase 1 Ends

The Great British Insulation Scheme's current phase closes — apply before March 31, 2026 to guarantee free insulation.

March 2028

ECO4 Scheme Closes

ECO4 runs until March 2028, but funding is allocated on a first-come basis. Apply early to avoid missing out.

March 2028

Boiler Upgrade Scheme Closes

The BUS has been extended to March 2028 with the increased £7,500 voucher amount.

GBIS closing March 2026: Free cavity wall and loft insulation won't be available much longer. Check if you qualify before the deadline.
